Trade sends Rookie Defenseman Blake Cudmore to Blue Ridge

by Charles Ryan

Wytheville VA - The Blue Ridge Bobcats have signed Rookie Defenseman Blake Cudmore to a professional tryout.

Last season Cudmore split time with both the Mississippi Seawolves and the Elmira Mammoth. He earned one goal, seven assists, and eight points.

Cudmore has spent the last two seasons jumping between different Single-A Minor Hockey teams including the Watertown Wolves and Delaware Thunder during the 2021-2022 season.

Prior to his time in the FPHL, the 27-year-old Richmond Hill Ontario native spent five seasons playing for Indiana Tech from 2017-2022. Earning six goals, nine assists, and 15 points for the Warriors.

During his time in juniors, Cudmore played for the Yarmouth Mariners and Truro Bearcats in the MJAHL (2015-2016), the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners in the NOJHL, Brantford Jr. B 99ers and St. Thomas Stars in the GOJHL, Espanola Express in the NOJHL, and the Southern Oregon Spartans in the WSHL all in 2016-2017.

Cudmore’s vision on the ice and patience with the puck are some of the reasons Bobcats Head Coach Vojtech Zemlicka decided to sign him.

“Blake was acquired in a trade with Elmira this summer. He’s a guy who’s been around the league for a little while and will bring some experience to this young team we’re building here. Blake has played two years of PRO hockey. Some of the things I really like about Blake are his patience with the puck, his vision in all three zones, and his physicality. Blake plays the game simple but effective and that’s what I was looking for to add to our lineup,” Zemlicka said.

You can catch Blake Cudmore and the rest of the Blue Ridge Bobcats for their home opener and the start of the inaugural season on Friday, October 20th at 7:30 p.m. inside the Apex Center. Don't miss any of the action this season and pick up your season tickets now here.
