Coach Zemlicka adds more physicality to the blue line with signing of Pro Defenseman Kolton Maguire

Wytheville VA– The Blue Ridge Bobcats are playing the mental game with the signing of Pro Defenseman Kolton Maguire.

Maguire looks to bring a big-body presence to the blue line for the Bobcats. As fans saw last season during his time in Watertown, Maguire skated in 53 games earning six goals, 15 assists, and 21 points. He also spent half of the 2022 season with the Delaware Thunder playing in 11 games.

Not a player to shy away from the physical aspects of the game either. With 123 penalty minutes last season the 25-year-old Mississauga Ontario native shows on the ice he is not afraid to drop the gloves and bring aggressive physicality to the ice.

Prior to his professional career, Maguire played for the Fergus Force “A” in the GMHL and the Walkerton Hawks in the PJCHL (2017-2018), the Toronto Predators “A” in the GMHL (2018-2019), and the Shelburne Muskies in the WOAA (2019-2022).

He earned his best season with the Toronto Predators “A” with 19 goals, 33 assists, and 54 points in 41 games.

Maguire’s physicality and aggressiveness in working on opponents' mental game are some of the reasons Bobcats Head Coach Vojtech Zemlicka decided to pick up the defender.

“We acquired Kolton during the expansion draft from the Watertown Wolves. Kolton is another player who brings a big body presence, he is an outstanding defenseman who skates and moves around the ice very well. The aggressive style of the game is exactly what Kolton likes to play as he will get under your skin and in your head. And if it comes down to it he’s not shying away from dropping the gloves and taking care of things. He was a very productive defenseman last season on the stats sheet and that was his rookie season, so now having some experience in the league and with the way we’re going to run our system I believe he will fall right into place in our puzzle,” Zemlicka said.

You can catch Kolton Maguire and the rest of the Blue Ridge Bobcats for their home opener and the start of the inaugural season on Friday, October 20th at 7:30 p.m. inside the Apex Center(The Den).
