Bobcats pick up aggressive forward in the forecheck with Pro Forward Jakub Volf

by Charles Ryan

Wytheville, VA – The Blue Ridge Bobcats have an aggressive second and third touch with the signing of Pro Forward Jakub Volf to a professional tryout.

The Bobcats acquired Volf through a proposed trade with the Columbus River Dragons after the River Dragons picked him up through the FPHL dispersal draft from the Delaware Thunder. The trade gave the Bobcats Volf for future considerations to the River Dragons.

Last season Volf skated for both the Elmira Mammoth and the Delaware Thunder in 50 games, earning seven goals, nine assists, and 16 points on the season.

Volf is looked at as more of a defensive forward, working more in front of the net looking towards rebounds and second and third touches on the puck. Not someone to stray away from his opponents, fans can expect to see a very physical and aggressive skater for the Bobcats willing to put his body in front of the puck to block shots.

Early in his professional career, Volf played for the Rumble Bees out of Battle Creek Michigan. The team lasted one season in the FPHL before disbanding for the 2020-2021 season.’

After playing for the Rumble Bees Volf moved to the Czechia 3 league playing two seasons for the IHC Králové Písek during the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 seasons. During those seasons he earned five assists in 38 games for the team.

Prior to his professional career, he spent his time with the IHC Pisek U20 teams in the Czechia 3 league from 2014 to 2017 and David Servis Ceske Budejovice in the Czechia 3 league from 2016 to 2018.

Volf’s drive on the ice and aggressiveness on the forecheck are just some of the many reasons Head Coach Vojtech Zemlicka decided to trade for Volf.

“We have proposed a trade with the Columbus River Dragons to acquire Jakub because I know for a fact that he’s one of the most underrated players in this league No one will outwork Jakub on the ice and he thrives on working in areas where most players don’t want to and that’s why I was very interested for Jakub to play for us. He’s very aggressive on the forecheck and will relentlessly hunt opponent defensemen down until they turn the puck over. He’s a PK guy, he’s not afraid to put his body on the line and block shots. He loves to be in front of the net to find loose pucks and pick up rebounds or just to create traffic. Jakub has experience playing at this level and so I am looking for him to step up this season and be part of the leadership group here for the Bobcats and always lead by example,” Zemlicka said.

You can catch Jakub Volf and the rest of the Blue Ridge Bobcats for their home opener and the start of the inaugural season on Friday, October 20th at 7:30 p.m. inside the Apex Center(The Den). Don't miss any of the action this season and pick up your season tickets now at https://wkf.ms/3QG3VmC.
