Wytheville VA - The Blue Ridge Bobcats have found a fast-paced defender with the signing of Rookie Forward Fabian Granqvist to a professional tryout.

Granqvist comes to the Bobcats after graduating from Indiana Tech last year. Over the course of four years with Indiana Tech he saw action as a top forward in 103 games, earning 20 goals, 44 assists, and 64 points.

During his time with Indiana Tech, the 23-year-old Borås Sweden Native, spent half a season in the USPHL with the Fort Wayne Spacemen earning nine goals, 11 assists, and 18 points in 17 games.

Prior to Granqvist’s time with the Warriors, he spent three seasons with Borås HC with the J18, J20, and Division 2 teams. Skating in 93 games earning five goals, six assists, and 11 points.

Granqvist’s fast-paced play and physicality were some of the skills that caught the eye of Bobcats Head Coach Vojtech Zemlicka.

“Fabian is coming out of Indiana Tech playing in the ACHA, where he just graduated after four years of playing. He was consistently one of the top players for them every season. He plays different hockey compared to what we usually see from Europeans, his game is more of the North American style of hockey. He plays fast-paced physical hockey, and he’s a workhorse on the ice. Fabian is a smart player who also plays very well offensively as well as defensively and that’s something that every coach wants to have, a guy who can play on both sides of the ice,” Zemlicka said.

You can catch Fabian Granqvist and the rest of the Blue Ridge Bobcats for their home opener and the start of the inaugural season on Friday, October 20th at 7:30 p.m. inside the Apex Center. Don't miss any of the action this season and pick up your season tickets now here.
