Bobcats add another wall to the crease with signing of Rookie Goalie Ian Wallace

by Charles Ryan

Wytheville VA - The Blue Ridge Bobcats have signed Goalie Ian Wallace to a professional tryout.

Wallace was picked up through the expansion draft this summer. After spending the past season with multiple FPHL teams including the Port Huron Prowlers (four games), Mississippi Seawolves (seven games), and the Binghamton Black Bears (one game), and finished the season with the Elmira Mammoth although he did not see any time on the ice.

Prior to his time in the FPHL, the 26-year-old West Islip, New York native spent four seasons with Franklin Pierce University, earning a save percentage of .919% and a goals-allowed average of 3.06%.

Although Wallace has a smaller size, only sitting at 5 '9, he makes up for it with an aggressive play style and speed between the posts.

It is that athleticism and speed that caught the eye of Bobcats Head Coach Vojtech Zemlicka.

“Ian has a solid resume playing NCAA DIII prior to his first year playing PRO, and he also already has some experience playing at this level last season, playing for a couple of different teams. Ian works very hard and every day he wants to be better, that’s the mindset I want my players to have. He’s very athletic, quick in the net, and he’s a great guy to be around,” Zemlicka said.

You can catch Ian Wallace and the rest of the Blue Ridge Bobcats for their home opener and the start of the inaugural season on Friday, October 20th at 7:30 p.m. inside the Apex Center. Don't miss any of the action this season and pick up your season tickets now here.
