A speedy forward will call Blue Ridge home with the signing of Rookie Forward Trevor Finch

by Charles Ryan

Wytheville VA – The Blue Ridge Bobcats have acquired Rookie Forward Trevor Finch from the Mississippi Seawolves. Signing Finch to a professional tryout with the Bobcats.

Finch has spent the last three seasons in professional hockey playing in Single-A Minor hockey. He started his career in 2021 skating with the Columbus River Dragons before heading to the Mississippi Seawolves last season. Where he earned three goals, four assists, and seven points in 21 games before getting injured.

Now as Finch bounces back from his season-ending injury last season he looks to bring more speed and efficiency to the Bobcats attacking third.

Prior to the 25-year-old Fort Wayne Indiana native’s professional career. Finch spent three seasons skating with the University of Oklahoma Sooners from 2018 to 2022. Playing in 63 games and earning a  stat line of seven goals, 13 assists, and 20 points for the Crimson and Cream.

During his time in juniors, Finch spent one season in Brockville, skating for both the Brockville Tikis “A” in the CCHL 2 and the Brockville Braves in the CCHL (2016-2017). After the 2016 season, Finch went to play Saint-Lazare Révolution in the QJHL (2017-2018).

As Finch continues to rehab and rebound from his injury last season it was his speed and agility that caught the eye of Bobcats Head Coach Vojtech Zemlicka.

“Trevor is coming into his 3rd season playing professional hockey. He spent some time in the SPHL during his first season, unfortunately, last season Trevor got injured and was forced to finish the season early. Currently, Trevor is finishing up his recovery and he’s been skating now for a few weeks. When we last talked he told me that he’s been feeling better, stronger, and faster than before and that’s exactly what I wanted to hear. Trevor is a smart player who sees the ice very well. Some of his other strengths on the ice are his quickness in small areas, speed, and he’s got a ton of skills. Having a lot of rookies this season, I am looking for Trevor to step in a bigger role to become a leader here on and off the ice. I am very excited about our forward group, we have a lot of talent but also guys who want to put the work in to “compete” on a daily basis,” Zemlicka said.

You can catch Trevor Finch and the rest of the Blue Ridge Bobcats for their home opener and the start of the inaugural season on Friday, October 20th at 7:30 p.m. inside the Apex Center.
